In addition to the review guides I sent home before the Christmas break, info has been on the Lit Google Classrooms for quite a while to help students prepare for the lit midterm.. The best prep for the ELA exam is the workbooks since we've skipped around the text quite a bit. However, I did post a direct/indirect object lesson on Google Classroom. Of course, I have been reminding students to come see me if they have any questions or are in need of extra help.
7th and 8th Grades will play kahoot games in lit on Wednesday. Either Thursday or Friday, we will play kahoot games for ELA.
7th Grade SS will be preparing next week in class.
Merry Christmas to all of my students and families who embody our shared Catholic values. I am overwhelmed by your generosity and unwavering support. Please see your class page for a special THANK YOU message.

Congratulations Madi! Your generosity and commitment to acting on your faith has been recognized on our "Be The Church" wall !!

I meant to post this on Tuesday. Congratulations to two of my 7th graders for being the first (well, first and second) to post a picture on the classroom "Be The Church" wall. These two fine young men put their faith in action by participating in a 5 K walk. Please, parents, encourage your kiddos to volunteer their time doing anything charitable. Take a picture, and I'll put it on the wall to be an inspiration throughout the year. My 8th graders can participate, too...

Mea culpa students and parents! I am buried under a mountain of complicated assessments and attempting to grade them in a timely fashion. Obviously, that is not happening. Rest assured that I am making my way through the independent reading projects for 7th grade (some are posted on Power School). I am also half way through the 8th grade essays (yep, only half). I haven't even started the character sketches! The 7th grade social studies projects (charity presentations) HAVE been graded and will appear on Power School very shortly. Please be patient.

7th Grade PARENTS:
I assigned a rough draft that was due in the middle of September. The purpose of the assignment was for me to assess the writing strengths and struggles of the students at the beginning of the year. I do not have the luxury of consulting with last year's 6th grade teacher, so I've had to experiment a little bit to get a sense of where to begin. There is no formal grade for this assignment (more on that in a moment). I have not returned the drafts, as I explained in class, because I want to "back it up a bit" and focus intensely on grammar because that is what this group needs. I have not returned the drafts simply because I do not want the students to lose them. I also do not want them to be anxious about any of the comments I've written. We are not ready to tackle this just yet.
Once I think they are ready, I will return the drafts. Informal grades, what they would have received if the draft were a final copy, will be on the paper to serve as a motivation to edit and rewrite.
8th Grade PARENTS: I am still in the process of reading the final copies. So far, I'm very excited.
7th and 8th Grade Students, REJOICE!! A document to help with maintenance sheets is up on Lit Google Classrooms!

September 10
I want to offer my sincere gratitude to Mr. Seeds for coming in to talk to my 8th grade class about September 11th today. I'm confident it was an experience my students and I will always remember.
Hello students and parents,
I'm so excited to be a part of the OLPH family for the 2015-2016 school year and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. First, let me tell you a little bit about myself. Although I am New Jersey born and raised, my little family moved to PA around ten years ago. My sons, Noah and Owen, are in 7th grade and 5th grade, respectively, in BASD schools. My little guy, who would be so angry if he heard that description, is autistic. So, why do I bring that up? I want you to understand that my expectations are high, but I am sensitive to the fact that some students face higher hurdles than others. I will not lower my standards, but I will make modifications and work closely with any family to help any child succeed in my classes. However, I need you to communicate with me if that is your situation. In my "spare" time, I love to read, knit very badly, and write. In fact, several of my stories have been published in various anthologies by The Bethlehem Writers Group.
Please feel free to look around this site. Hover your cursor over either "7th Grade ELA/Lit/Social Studies" or "8th Grade ELA/Lit/History" and choose from the pull down menu. I will put links up that I hope my students will find interesting as well as homework. Please, however, log into google classroom to monitor assignments.
